WhatChuSayRadio’ Artist of the Week 6-19-2023

🎙 WhatChuSayRadio’s Artist of the Week is Clarksdale Mississippi’s own, the late Sam Cooke. Gifted with one of the greatest voices in music history, Cooke is known for some of the most inspirational songs ever produced. His greatest music success came in the 1950’s & 60’s with forever hits like “Chain Gang”, “You Send Me”, “Cupid”, and “A Change Is Gonna Come”. Not only did he use his voice for music, but he also used it for the Civil Rights Movement. He was friends with greats Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Malcom X and the movie 🎥 “One Night In Miami” is based on an encounter the 4 had together in a hotel after an Ali title fight. Check it out! Sam Cooke’s life was cut short on December 11, 1964 at the young age of 33, when he was shot at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles, California. Though Sam Cooke was here for a short time, he left a lasting legacy that still thrives today! He was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 1986, and was posthumously awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 all for his music contributions.
