đ WhatChuSayRadioâs Artist of the Week is Clarksdale Mississippiâs own, the late Sam Cooke. Gifted with one of the greatest voices in music history, Cooke is known for some of the most inspirational songs ever produced. His greatest music success came in the 1950âs & 60âs with forever hits like âChain Gangâ, âYou Send Meâ, âCupidâ, and âA Change Is Gonna Comeâ. Not only did he use his voice for music, but he also used it for the Civil Rights Movement. He was friends with greats Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Malcom X and the movie đĽ âOne Night In Miamiâ is based on an encounter the 4 had together in a hotel after an Ali title fight. Check it out! Sam Cookeâs life was cut short on December 11, 1964 at the young age of 33, when he was shot at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles, California. Though Sam Cooke was here for a short time, he left a lasting legacy that still thrives today! He was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 1986, and was posthumously awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 all for his music contributions. Formed in 1954 out of Cincinnati Ohio, The Isley Brothers music began to gain recognition in the 1960âs, and really took off in the 1970âs. The groups 1973 album â3 + 3â featuring the hit song, âThat Ladyâ brought The Isley Brothers their first taste of mainstream success while the 1975 album, âThe Heat Is Onâ, gave them their largest success as that album đż hit #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and #7 on the Billboard 200 chart. The âHeat Is Onâ features hit songs âFight The Powerâ, âFor The Love Of Youâ, and âMake Me Say It Againâ which was recently redone in September of 2022 and features BeyoncĂŠ. The Isley Brothers have 2 Grammyâs under their belt, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and received a BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
